All's Well That Ends Well: William Shakespeare Details
All's Well That Ends Well is a play by William Shakespeare, originally classified as a comedy, though now often counted as one of his problem plays, so-called because they cannot be easily classified as tragedy or comedy. It was probably written in later middle part of Shakespeare's career, between 1601 and 1608, and was first published in the First Folio in 1623.
Reviews
The is not Shakespeare's most lucid prose. And the commentary by GK Hunter doesn't help. It is very, very dry in its academic quality, yet oddly it does not inform the reader much about the Elizabethan usage of words and phrases. After struggling through the first act (and I have done my time as a serious Shakespeare scholar) I replaced it with the much better, clearer, RSC edition edited by Jonathan Bate.
